Can You Transfer Your GTA 6 Save From PS5 to PC?

GTA 6 has no confirmed PC version yet, and Rockstar's own GTA 5 precedent shows PlayStation-to-PC save transfers have never existed. Here's what's confirmed and what to expect.

Can You Transfer Your GTA 6 Save From PS5 to PC?

No. As of today, GTA 6 has no confirmed PC version at all, so there is nothing to transfer a save to. Rockstar has confirmed GTA 6 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, launching November 19, 2026, and has said nothing official about a PC release, a release date, or any form of cross-progression between platforms. Everything else on this question is precedent and informed guesswork, and this guide separates the two clearly.

The essentials

  • PC version: not announced. Rockstar/Take-Two have confirmed only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S for launch day.
  • GTA 5 precedent: an 18-month wait. The PC version of GTA 5 arrived in April 2015, about 18 months after the original PS3/Xbox 360 launch in September 2013.
  • PS-to-PC saves have never worked for GTA 5. Rockstar's existing profile migration tool covers PS4-to-PS5 and Xbox One-to-Xbox Series X|S (and even cross-console between the two families), but explicitly excludes PC.
  • Story Mode and GTA Online use separate transfer systems, and neither has ever included a PlayStation-to-PC leg.
  • Nothing has been said about GTA 6 specifically. No cross-play, cross-progression, or cloud-save statement exists yet for GTA 6 on any platform pairing.

Does GTA 6 even have a PC version?

Not yet, at least not officially. Every trailer and every confirmed detail from Rockstar points to a console-first launch: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. Take-Two has not announced a PC release, a PC release window, or system requirements. If you have seen a specific PC date floating around, it is not from Rockstar - it is a media estimate built on past patterns, and you should treat it exactly that way. We cover what those estimates are actually built on in our GTA 6 PC release date guide.

This matters for the save-transfer question because a transfer needs two working versions of the game to move data between. Right now there is only one confirmed version. Until Rockstar announces a PC release, "PS5 to PC save transfer" is a hypothetical about a product that does not officially exist yet.

What Rockstar has actually said about cross-progression

Nothing, for GTA 6. Rockstar has not published anything about cross-play, cross-progression, or cloud saves for GTA 6 on any combination of platforms - PS5-Xbox, PS5-PC, or otherwise. If you want the fullest picture of what is and is not confirmed on the closely related crossplay question, see our breakdown of GTA 6 crossplay between PS5 and Xbox.

The absence of a statement is not a hint either way. Rockstar tends to announce these systems close to launch, once the exact scope of what a platform can support is locked in. Anything claiming to know GTA 6's cross-progression rules right now is guessing.

The GTA 5 precedent: what actually happened last time

GTA 5 is the best evidence we have, because it is the same publisher, the same engine lineage, and a very similar console-then-PC rollout shape.

GTA 5 launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013. The PS4 and Xbox One version followed in November 2014. The PC version did not arrive until April 2015 - about 18 months after the original console launch, and roughly 4-5 months after the PS4/Xbox One version. If GTA 6 follows a similar shape, a PC version would land well over a year after the November 2026 console launch, not alongside it. That is a pattern, not a promise, and Rockstar has made no statement locking in a repeat.

Once the PC version did arrive in 2015, save transfer from PlayStation or Xbox was never part of the deal. Story Mode saves moved between console generations through a one-time "Upload Save Game" cloud tool (PS3-to-PS4, Xbox 360-to-Xbox One, and later PS4-to-PS5, Xbox One-to-Xbox Series X|S), but that tool has always stopped at the console ecosystem's edge. PC players started their own separate save file.

GTA Online followed the same rule. Rockstar's profile migration system lets you move your GTA Online character and progress within the PlayStation and Xbox families - PS4 to PS5, Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S, and even across from PS4 to Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One to PS5 - as a one-time transfer tied to your linked Rockstar Games Social Club account. PC has never been part of that migration path in either direction.

Why PS5-to-PC transfers are hard in the first place

This isn't Rockstar being stingy - it's a structural problem shared across the industry. A save transfer needs a account system that both platforms recognize as the same player, and PlayStation and PC do not share one. PSN accounts are closed to Sony hardware; PC purchases route through Steam, Epic, or the Rockstar Games Launcher, each with its own separate library and save storage.

Compare that to Xbox, where Microsoft's Play Anywhere program links Xbox consoles and Windows PCs under one Xbox Live account, making save sync straightforward on that side. Sony has no equivalent bridge into PC gaming. That asymmetry is exactly why GTA 5 could offer near-seamless save continuity within the PlayStation family and within the Xbox family, but never a bridge from PlayStation to PC. Nothing about GTA 6 changes that underlying account architecture, so the same wall is the most likely default unless Rockstar builds something new.

So what should you actually expect for GTA 6?

Based on precedent only, not a Rockstar statement:

  1. A PC version is likely eventually, given GTA 5's history, but not on November 19, 2026, and not with a confirmed date yet.
  2. A PS5-to-PC save transfer would be a new feature, not a continuation of anything Rockstar has offered before. Every past transfer tool - Story Mode or GTA Online - has stayed inside one console family or, separately, stayed on PC.
  3. The safest planning assumption is that your GTA 6 progress stays on the platform you start it on. If you are choosing where to buy at launch, our guide on which GTA 6 edition to buy is a better use of your decision-making than betting on a save transfer that has no precedent.
  4. Watch official Rockstar Newswire and Support channels close to any future PC announcement. That is historically when transfer rules for a given platform pairing get published, not before.

Frequently asked questions

Will my GTA 6 PS5 save work on Xbox Series X|S? Not something Rockstar has confirmed for GTA 6, though GTA 5's precedent for GTA Online profile migration does bridge PlayStation and Xbox. See our GTA 6 crossplay explainer for what is actually confirmed.

Can I at least play with friends on different platforms even without shared saves? That is a separate question - crossplay - from save transfer, and it also has no official GTA 6 confirmation yet.

Does modding change any of this? No. Mods are a PC-only, single-platform feature and have nothing to do with cross-platform saves. Our guide on GTA 6 mods and Rockstar's PC policy covers what is known there.

When will we actually know? Realistically, only once Rockstar confirms a PC version exists. Save-transfer rules for GTA 5 were announced platform-by-platform, close to each new version's release, not years in advance.

The bottom line

There is no GTA 6 PC version to transfer a save to yet, and even if one arrives on Rockstar's usual timeline, its own track record with GTA 5 says a PlayStation-to-PC save bridge has never existed and there's no technical shortcut around the PSN/Steam account split that makes one likely by default. Treat any claim otherwise, right now, as speculation - and check back here once Rockstar actually announces a PC release.
