How Rockstar got to a final date
Getting here took two official delays:
- Originally on track for a 2025 window, per Take-Two's own guidance, though Rockstar never confirmed a specific calendar date.
- Pushed to May 26, 2026 on May 2, 2025. Rockstar apologized publicly: "The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team... thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game."
- Pushed again to November 19, 2026 on November 6, 2025, the current and confirmed date. Rockstar again apologized for "adding additional time," saying the extra months would let the team "finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve."
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has since called the studio's approach a bid to release "the most extraordinary title anyone's ever seen in the history of entertainment," and told IGN he was "highly confident" in the new date. For the full blow-by-blow, see our complete GTA 6 delay history.
What's confirmed about the story and setting
- Setting: a modern-day Vice City and the wider fictional state of Leonida, Rockstar's Florida analogue.
- Protagonists: Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, a Bonnie-and-Clyde-style criminal couple whose easy score spirals into a conspiracy across the state. Lucia is the first female lead protagonist in a mainline GTA game. See our full breakdown of the setting.
- Confirmed supporting cast: Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre'Quan Priest, Bae-Luxe and Roxy ("Real Dimez"), Raul Bautista and Brian Heder.
- Two trailers so far. The second, released May 6, 2026, reportedly drew more than 60 million views in 24 hours. A third is coming (see below).
Platforms: what about PC?
At launch, GTA 6 is confirmed only for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Rockstar has not announced a PC version, a PC date, or a PC storefront, and nothing published since June 2026 has changed that. Treat any specific PC date you see online as a guess - GTA 5's PC release landed roughly 19 months after its console launch, which is the closest precedent, but Rockstar hasn't confirmed anything similar for GTA 6. We track every rumor and official update on our dedicated GTA 6 PC release date page.
Editions and pricing
Pre-orders opened June 25, 2026, and Rockstar confirmed two editions:
- Standard Edition - $79.99
- Ultimate Edition - $99.99, adding extra vehicles, weapons and apparel plus additional missions and activities tied to Jason and Lucia's story
Every pre-order, and any purchase made before November 20, 2026 regardless of edition or retailer, includes the Vintage Vice City Pack: a 1980s-styled car (a 1955 Vapid Stanier), a garage, retro clothing and hairstyles, and weapon skins inspired by Tommy Vercetti. Digital preload begins November 12, 2026; the box edition ships with a download code, not a disc. If you're weighing whether to lock in now, see our breakdown of which edition to buy.
Take-Two's latest confirmation
On its Q1 fiscal 2027 earnings call, held Friday, August 7, 2026, Take-Two reaffirmed November 19, 2026 as the release date. Zelnick described pre-order demand as "unprecedented and astonishing," said it had "vastly" outpaced internal forecasts, and noted early demand skewed toward the $99.99 Ultimate Edition. Take-Two reiterated fiscal 2027 net bookings guidance of $8.0-$8.2 billion built around the GTA 6 launch. That is the most recent public reaffirmation of the date as of this update; Take-Two's next scheduled earnings call, covering the following quarter, isn't expected until early November 2026.
What's next: the August 27 Extended Look
Rockstar has confirmed a marketing event called "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" for Thursday, August 27, 2026. It premieres exclusively on Netflix at 3 p.m. ET, with a six-hour Netflix-only window before it goes live on Rockstar's YouTube channel and the official GTA 6 website at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT. Zelnick has called it an "appetizer," with more reveals expected before launch. Track the details on our Trailer 3 coverage.
Has GTA 6 been delayed again?
No. As of this update, November 19, 2026 has held since November 6, 2025 with no further official change. Chatter about a later date - including an unverified claim of a February 2027 shift that circulated on 4chan - is unsubstantiated and hasn't been supported by Rockstar, Take-Two, or any reputable outlet. Industry insider Tom Henderson has said he expects no further delay "at this moment." As always, treat anything short of an official Rockstar or Take-Two statement as unconfirmed.
What time does GTA 6 unlock on release day?
Launch is midnight local time in most regions, but exact unlock times vary by timezone and storefront. See our full release-time breakdown for every timezone to plan your launch night. Rockstar hasn't detailed midnight-launch events or region-by-region logistics yet; we'll update this page the moment that changes.
Why this date matters
GTA 5 sold more than 215 million copies over a launch window that stretched across three console generations, and GTA Online became one of the highest-grossing entertainment products of all time. Take-Two is building GTA 6 on that scale: the company's fiscal 2027 net bookings guidance of $8.0-$8.2 billion is built directly around this single launch, and pre-order demand already outpacing internal forecasts is one reason Take-Two's stock and investor commentary have leaned so heavily on November 19, 2026 holding firm. That is also why a further delay, however unlikely right now, would be closely watched - it's not just a release date, it's the centerpiece of Take-Two's next several fiscal years.
Frequently asked questions
Is GTA 6 really coming out on November 19, 2026? Yes. Rockstar confirmed the date on November 6, 2025, and Take-Two reaffirmed it as recently as its August 7, 2026 earnings call. Nothing official has changed it since.
How much will GTA 6 cost? $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition, both confirmed at pre-order launch on June 25, 2026.
Will GTA 6 come to PC on day one? No. Only PS5 and Xbox Series X/S are confirmed for November 19, 2026. No PC date exists yet.
Is this the final date, or could it slip again? Nobody can guarantee a release date won't move, but there's no evidence pointing that way. The date has held for over nine months, survived a full earnings cycle, and rumors of a further slip trace back to unverified anonymous posts, not Rockstar or Take-Two.
